HD 515 Review
 |
| I know all about Sennheiser's good reputation in the audio business and
when I wanted to shop for a new pair of high-end headphones, the
thought of Sennheiser came second to none. I already had my sights set
on the HD 515 model due to it's technical features and the fact that
I've had a lot of positive feedback bout them. Let me set this straight
now... I am not regretting this decision one bit! The out of the box
accessories, the comfort and the audio quality of these headphones
makes them take the lead on the rest of the competition.
First
off, first impressions are really important and I can tell you that
these headsets are dressed to impress. With a very nice on shelf
presentation, the HD 515 sure look good on the box, as well as out of
it. One thing to note here: these headphones have a long, very long
wire that comes with an ΒΌ to 1/8 adapter to makes sure that you can
plug them on basically anything from the get go. Also, the connector is
made of gold, which preserves sound quality a lot.
On a
practical standpoint, I've got to say, these headphones are
comfortable. Very light (only 225g) the earphones and the head support
are equipped with a nice cushion for long term usage. Speaking of the
earphones, they really cover your ears, which shield your ears from
virtually any ambient sound for a much more immersive experience.
Comfort, tranquility, what else could you ask for?
Actually,
there is one thing: sound. Now this is the point where we will be able
to tell whether these headphones stand above all, or stay in the
shadows... Obviously, sound quality is Sennheiser, and these headsets,
well it's what Sennheiser does best: a really, totally awesome audio
product. I've tested them on basically any media there is (CD, mp3,
games, movies) and if there is one thing I noticed, it's that
everything is balanced in perfect harmony. The highs are sharp, the
bass is just perfect for headphones and the overall sound clarity is
astounding. I've found myself hearing some instruments and sound
effects I never noticed with my older headphones. As far as mp3 goes,
the sound restitution is so good that you can hear the compression
flaws in low quality mp3s. Movies and games are also really nice when
it comes to the HD 515. Even if it is stereo, which makes the location
of enemies not as precise as with a full-fledged surround system, you
can still hear pretty clearly whatever is going on in-game.
Accessories,
comfort, sound quality, these are the points that make the HD 515 so
great. These are, and by far, the best headphones I've ever had and
they were beyond my wildest expectations. If you're more of a "gamer"
type and you want something similar ith a microphone, you could always
check out the Sennheiser HD 350 gaming headset. | | | | | |
